Antique Middleton Plate Co. Hand White Metal Trinket Box

Description

This antique trinket box is cleverly designed with its opening mechanism. By pushing back the handle, the drawer rolls out on a center wheel support. The box is listed as Quadruple Plate, which indicates only a very thin layer of silver covers a nickel base. A close look at the markings on the bottom of this item reveal the company who manufactured it, its composition, as well as a #16 Hand White Metal stamp and the term Paten w/ the name Ted #50. The #50 is also stamped on the backside bottom. This is a very ornate piece of quadruple plate art. Research on this piece suggests that it may also be a sugar casket. Sadly, the female figure with her basket is missing, which explains the two holes on the lid.(See Pic #7) The lady appears to be of Black ancestry.
